Coffee Exports From India Set to Drop as Europe Demand Slows
Posted in on Feb 06, 2013 кофе , зеленый кофе , арабика , Индия

Coffee exports from India, Asia’s third-biggest supplier, may decline for a second straight year as an economic slowdown in Europe cuts demand and as damage from pest attacks reduces the harvest. Shipments may drop below 300,000 metric tons this year from 310,886 tons in 2012, Ramesh Rajah, president of the Coffee Exporters Association of India, said by phone from Bangalore. Exports fell 9.4 percent last year, the first annual drop in three years, according to data from the Coffee Board of India. A drop in Indian supplies may help limit a 34 percent slump in arabica prices in the past year in ...

Tea-plucking machines in India threaten Assam livelihoods
Posted in on Dec 03, 2012 чай , цены , Индия

The north-eastern Indian state of Assam is renowned for its tea - the backbone of its economy. The traditions of the old estates, including hand-picking, make the tea expensive. But any drop in quality would undermine the Assam brand. Spending the night in an old fashioned British Raj bungalow on a tea estate in Assam, I was awoken at six in the morning by a siren. For more than 1,000 men and women this was the alarm call which got them out of bed to prepare for eight hours plucking tea, planting new tea bushes, weeding, digging ditches, or doing any of the other tasks required to produce high...

Posted in on Sep 24, 2012 чай , цены , Индия

Tea prices in India eased at last week's auction due to an improvement in supplies, although good domestic demand capped the downside, dealers said. The price of CTC (crush-tear-curl) tea dropped 3 percent to 144.39 rupees per kg, while the dust variety fell 1.36 percent to 149.14 rupees per kg. "Supplies are rising as plucking has gained pace in north-eastern India. In next few weeks supplies will remain on higher side," said an official at Calcutta Tea Traders' Association. Tea plucking in India, the world's second-biggest producer, usually rises between July and October.
